Founder Acharya
His Divine Grace Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
Srila Prabhupada, as he is commonly known to his descendents, was to be the personality empowered to spread Krishna Consciousness all over the world. Born in India in a Vaisnava family, and having spent his life dedicated to the study and translation of the Vedic literatures, in August 1965 he sailed from Calcutta to New York and single-handedly started a worldwide movement.
His life story is phenomenal, and until his departure in 1977, he left behind a legacy of hundreds of spiritual centres which his disciples continue to expand. Most importantly, he translated, wrote and published over 100 volumes of literature on devotional service, on whose authority the movement is based.
When His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada entered the port of New York City on September 17, 1965, few Americans took notice — but he was not merely another immigrant. He was on a mission to introduce an ancient religion, which originated in India, into mainstream America.
Before Srila Prabhupada passed away on November 14, 1977, at the age of 81, his mission proved successful. He had founded and saw it grow into a worldwide confederation of more than 100 temples, ashrams and cultural centers.
About Us
Hare Kṛṣṇa Temple - Burbank is a spiritual cultural centre which we all can lovingly call “Our spiritual home” in the upcoming leafy suburb of Burbank on the Southeast side of Brisbane. It is a collective initiative of bhakti yoga practitioners from diverse backgrounds who regularly come together to share the philosophy and practice of spiritual journey, group mantra meditation and happy community building. We facilitate warm and inclusive community events which allow new and experienced participants to taste the pure bliss that comes from sharing kirtan, transcendental literature, spiritual company and delicious plant-based meals! We are an entirely not-for-profit, volunteer-run project and would love to see you soon for kirtan, community and delicious food :)
